5 Day Human Cadaver Dissection For Movement Artists 2026
Lead by Jim Donak

This workshop is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the human form through the process of revealing through dissection.
Whether you are a teacher, student, therapist or hyper-curious movement artist this 5-day journey will allow you to experience first-hand how tissues really integrate in 3 dimensions to create mobility and movement expression.

This year with the amazing Marlo Fisken of Flow Movement!
Marlo is a world renown expert in movement flow and dance pole fitness who knows her way around a dissection lab.
She will be a wonderful addition to our week in the lab as her enthusiasm for guiding others to know and flow their bodies will certainly inspire all who attend.
Description:
See the truth beneath the skin. This opportunity to study with human cadavers will allow you to explore the fascinating and often disorienting world of real anatomy.
Even the best anatomy resources fall short of presenting a true sense of the reality of the human form and how structures integrate functionally. The way muscle, fascia, bone et al interlace, vary and belong to each other can only be full understood when seen in their real form.
There is no better way to understand the structures of the human body and how they vary and inter-relate than through dissection. Dissection is the art of revealing and exploring the fascinating world and discovering hidden treasure within the forms. In this workshop you will be able to see , touch and move the forms and their structures. This workshop isn’t about naming parts and memorizing a map it is about walking the terrain yourself and seeing new things from new perspectives. Let your amazement drive you and your curiosity steer your exploration as you create a transformative experience. New perspectives gained and will forever change the way you conceive of the miracle of nature.

What You’ll Experience
- Hands-on dissection with expert guidance
This powerful workshop offers you a unique opportunity to dissect the human form and with expert guidance you will create your own journey of discovery. - Techniques for safe, skillful use of dissection tools
Dissection techniques and the safe use of dissection tools will be taught - Freedom to pursue your own learning project in the lab
Projects will be yours to choose and pursue - Exploration of structural vs. functional anatomy
The learning emphasis will be on exploring how structures integrate within the whole - Discussions on integrating anatomical insight into movement training and teaching
Discover how functional integration can lead to more effective approaches to somatic skill acquisition - Access to anatomical models, texts, and reference materials
Many anatomy models and texts will also be on hand for references and to enhance your learning experience
Why this workshop is game-changer for movement lovers, teachers and learners
- Real-world structural understanding for non-standard positions
- Many movement disciplines often involve inverted, twisted, and torque-heavy shapes. Anatomy books show “neutral” posture — cadaver study shows you how tissues really behave when pulled, spiraled, or loaded in unexpected ways.
- Understanding natural variation
- Many movement disciplines venture into the extremes of flexibility, strength, and coordination. Seeing how joint shapes, muscle lengths, fascia density, and nerve pathways vary between individuals explains why some moves feel easy for one person and near-impossible for another.
- Injury prevention for high-demand movement
- Extreme movement demands extreme awareness. Dissection reveals exactly where leverage can be safely created — and where strain builds silently before injury.
- Artistry informed by structure
- Knowing the hidden architecture unlocks new movement sensitives. You start creating shapes and transitions that work with the body’s design instead of against it.
- Somatic intelligence upgrade
- The more precisely you know what’s under your skin, the more accurately you can sense and control it.
No previous anatomy or lab experience is required.

TESTIMONIALS
I had attended a lecture by Jim Donak titled “What your body is made of”, and truly enjoyed his perspective of anatomy and biomechanics. When I heard he offered a dissection lab I was instantly intrigued. I was however very hesitant before signing up. Even after finally making the decision to do it, I was still apprehensive if I was going to be able to actually participate. I had a lot of nervous excitement as well as anxieties around the actual dissection itself. Every day, Jim set us up for success with open conversations that always felt safe and supportive. Throughout the process, Jim was right there with us, exploring, teaching, and assisting. Each day concluded with an open discussion forum making sure everyone was doing okay. Jims’ calm demeanor, enthusiasm for learning, and sense of humor create a light and fun experience. By the end of the 5 days, all the students were giddy with excitement about what we were learning and exploring.
Even with my extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics, the experience studying with Jim in the lab taught me more than I had learned through text books, a university education and as a movement coach combined. I now understand the body on an entirely new level. I also I stepped through mental, emotional, and spiritual challenges that arose from working on the deceased while gaining a new perspective on life, death, and the way we, as humans, go through life. It has changed the way I move and live my life, as well as the way I teach my clients.
I am extremely grateful to have had this experience and will likely attend another lab with Jim in the future. Opportunities like these are hard to come by, and Jim creates a welcoming environment for anyone with any background or education.”

I did this two years ago and it was an amazing experience! It was held with respect and support while my personal curiosity was encouraged. It was intense, but I am so glad and grateful for the opportunity. I have a new respect for the human body. If you are drawn to this, do it! It will blow your mind daily.
