CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR MOVEMENT INSTRUCTORS
These labs explore regional anatomy, kinesiology and approaches to teaching improved movement awareness and healthy function.
BIOMECHANICS OF THE SHOULDER COMPLEX
Description:
Shoulders demystified! Shoulders are complicated, and balancing mobility with stability and strength is challenging. Become familiar with the biomechanics of the shoulder complex, including: the local anatomy, the mechanics of the region, some common injuries and patterns of dysfunction found in this area along with the interplay of the shoulder complex with more distant areas of the body. The confusion often present with this region of the body and with how it relates to other areas is common and can lead set-backs. Understanding these relationships more clearly gives insight into the body’s functionality, and/or lack thereof and the use of various asana for balance, correction and healing.
Lecture Objectives:
To deepen the understanding of the anatomy and function of the structures of the shoulder complex.
To became familiar with common dysfuctions of and relating to the shoulder complex and strategies for their correction.
Syllabus:
This workshop will closely follow the contents of the Trail Guide to the Body’s Chapter 2: Shoulder & Arm
Review of basic anatomical terminology
Topographical anatomy
Study and Exploration of bones, bony landmarks,
Study and Exploration of joints and related connective tissue
Study and Exploration of muscles, compartments
Study and Exploration of vascular structures
Study and Exploration of nerves
Workshop review and integration into a movement practice
Texts:
It is strongly recommended that all participants have an anatomy reference book on hand.
Highly recommended texts are:
Trail Guide to the Body(3rd Ed or later); Biel, Andrew R.
The Anatomy of Movement: Calais-Germain, Blandine
MID-MONTH MONDAYS HANDSTAND PRACTICE
Description:
Mid-month Mondays Handstand Practice is a time to safely practice the integration of strength, alignment, equilibrium and refined body awareness required to nurture a stable and strong handstand and inversion discipline.
NERVOUS SYSTEM
Workshop Objectives:
- To present the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system
- To present the practical application of the information in the context of teaching movement and posture
TRAINING SPECIFICS 1
Workshop Objectives:
- To present the anatomy and physiology of the muscular system
- To present the foundations of biomechanics and its application in the context of teaching movement and posture
TRAINING SPECIFICS 2
Workshop Objectives:
- To present neuromuscular behaviors and their application in the context of teaching movement and posture
- To present some common upper body injuries with an understanding of how to recognize, avoid and manage them in the context of teaching movement and posture
