Neuromuscular Techniques for Stretching and Strengthening (NMT): Foundations

Description:
This class prepares students for the Stretching and NMT regional application classes. It familiarizes students with the anatomical and kinesiological factors the techniques involved in determining and influencing one’s posture and use.

Topics covered include: functional anatomy of the locomotor system, posture and movement assessment, indications/contraindications. Sensitivity and communication skills are refined through interactive exercises.

A wide variety of clinical techniques including passive stretching, post-isometric relaxation (PIR), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), muscle energy technique (MET), and positional release (PR) are presented along with an exploration of how to adapt techniques to different situations and modalities.
